Transform your Bedroom into a Calm Sanctuary

In these sometimes turbulent times, your bedroom can offer a place to seek quiet and calm. Away from the stresses of daily life, you can escape to your bedroom and surround yourself in peaceful isolation. So how do you achieve this? In this blog we explore how to transform your bedroom into the perfect sanctuary.

Declutter

Having an uncluttered bedroom will really help promote a feeling of calm. Keep accessories to the minimum and careful consider any additional items you put in to the space.  For example, select a cushion which will add comfort and texture or a plant which will improve the air quality and bring nature into your room.

To achieve a de-cluttered space, and life, take a look at Marie Kondo who promises to tidy your space, transform your life. Their goal is to ‘help more people live a life that sparks joy, and they are committed to offering the simplest, most effective tools and services to get you there.’ Take a look here.

Muted Colour Palette

Choosing muted colours will increase the sense of space in your room and enable your eyes to rest without the impact of bold or jarring colours.

You can add interest to your scheme with texture. Select a woven headboard fabric, dress your bed with a chunky knitted throw or pick a natural woven carpet such as jute or seagrass.

We find the grey colour palette to be particularly calming and peaceful but we also think that pastel shades have a wonderfully calming effect and allow you to incorporate colour into your space. Compliment your main colours with crisp plain white sheets and pillows to create a contemporary and welcoming oasis.

Natural Light

To maximise the natural light coming in to your bedroom you could hang a mirror on the opposite wall to the window which will reflect the sunlight around your room, with the added bonus of making the room appear larger than it is.

To add ambient light, choose a lamp with a soft, textured shade on your bedside and for extra Feng Shui, choose identical lamps on symmetrical bedside tables. If you are interested in Feng Shui you might enjoy this website, click here.

Try replacing the light bulbs in your ceiling fixtures and lamps with energy-efficient, soft, warm-glow light bulbs to create a cozy, welcoming ambience that invites you into a peaceful slumber, you do not want something which is too bright.

Our top tips:

  1. Declutter your space

  2. Go for soft colour schemes. Think about cool pastel shades of green, blue, grey, pinks and yellows.

  3. Go easy on furnishings - avoid anything too ornate, edgy, or attention-grabbing.

  4. Add your personality: A soothing bedroom may not be dramatic or bold but it doesn’t have to be boring and without interest either. Showcase your personality through your selection of textures, artwork and balance of colours.

  5. Enjoy your space!
