Storage Solutions

A obstacle to creating a perfect bedroom is storing all the clutter! Without adequate storage, you’re only moving the clutter from one place to another. In this blog we explore different storage solutions for the bedroom and how you can effectively declutter your bedroom and create a room which you want to spend time in.

Under bed storage and boxes

If you own a bedstead, why not utilise the lost space below the bed by using under bed storage trays or boxes, this is the best was to make the most of your existing bedstead whilst creating more storage.  The key difference between this option and an ottoman bed is that you need to have floor space surrounding your bed in order to pull out your storage box and access your belongings, if you are tight on space it’s time to consider an ottoman bed.

Ottoman Beds

An ottoman bed is the perfect way of storing your belongings without using up floor space to do it.

When selecting an ottoman bed you must:

1. Plan your room to make sure that your bed does not dominate the space.

2. Consider the position of your bed so that you can easily access your storage.

3. Plan what you will store in your ottoman bed, this may make another piece of furniture redundant making more space in your room.

Fitted Storage

Having a fitted wardrobe or cupboard installed can maximise an awkward space you may have in your room that wouldn’t otherwise fit a freestanding wardrobe or drawers. This can be a more expensive option than free standing furniture and is not suitable for every bedroom but if you have a tricky room shape, perhaps having to incorporate a chimney breast, it is worth looking in to.  This option can also create a more cohesive space than having multiple freestanding items of furniture.

Shelving

Shelves are a great way of creating more space in a room. You could choose to use them to display your belongings or as a practical storage solution. Keep them neat by using storage boxes that compliment your colour scheme.

Sliding wardrobe doors

If you would like freestanding furniture, consider selecting a wardrobe with sliding doors. This will ensure that your wardrobe doesn’t take up any more space than it needs to, particularly important in smaller bedrooms.  Look for a wardrobe which is as tall as possible, this maximises the floor space and creates a neat finish.

Bedside tables

If you are going to add bedside tables to the mix, consider an option with drawers. Well organised, these drawers could hold all those smaller things that usually end up on the top of the dressing table.  Consider the bedside lighting you would like, freestanding bedside lights gives flexibility but take up space, wall fixed lights can be a great way to add detail to your interior scheme without using up space.

Children’s bedroom

The kids normally get the smaller rooms in the house which can quickly become overwhelmed by things like games, lego and cuddly toys! It is especially important to make the most of the space you have so consider beds that have clever in built storage, modular furniture that can be rearranged and shelving.
